Self-propelled automatic chassis of Lunokhod-1: history of creation in episodes

The report reviews the most important episodes in history of designing of self-propelled automatic chassis of the first in the world mobile extraterrestrial vehicle that is Lunokhod-1. It gives consideration to the issues of moon-rovers designing, essential features and particular properties of construction of their systems, mechanisms, units and assemblies. It reports the brief results of exploitation of the chassis as a part of Lunokhod-1 and Lunokhod-2, analysis of the approaches and engineering solutions proved their value as well as consequences of certain defects.
